European motor insurance for UK nationals living abroad
If you’ve moved to Europe full-time but kept a UK-registered vehicle, standard UK car insurance won’t cover you properly. Most policies allow short visits to Europe but aren’t designed for people who live there. Once you’re resident in another country, you’re in different territory and your insurer needs to know about it.
Stuart Collins has been arranging insurance for British expats since 1969. It’s a specialist area — most high street insurers don’t offer it, and the ones that do often have restrictions on which countries they’ll cover or how long you can stay.
What an expat motor policy covers
An expat motor insurance policy works like a standard UK policy in most ways. You’re covered for third-party liability, and depending on the level of cover you choose, for fire, theft, and accidental damage too. The difference is that it’s built for someone whose permanent base is outside the UK, rather than someone visiting Europe for a few weeks a year.
Green Cards for expats
If your country of residence requires a Green Card, we can issue one. Requirements vary by country and change periodically, so it’s worth confirming what’s needed before you travel across borders.
Why use an FCA-regulated broker?
Because we’re authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (firm reference 1013445), you have access to the Financial Ombudsman Service if something goes wrong. That protection doesn’t exist if you buy insurance through an unregulated broker abroad.
If you’re a UK national living in Europe and need cover for your UK-registered vehicle, get in touch for a quote. We cover a wide range of countries and can usually turn quotes around quickly.
